Lucy, how wonderful you edited Ann Halam/Gwyneth Jones - agree her adult sci-fi is also terrific. Kate, I don't know the Monica Dickens series you mentioned, though I do recall reading and enjoying her pony books years ago. And these are ghost stories? Nan, so glad you enjoyed the post and looking at the Hemmingford Grey house. I went round it a few years ago, shown around by Lucy Boston's daughter-in-law Diana, and it is like walking into the books. Amazing. And Donna, thanks - hope you find plenty to enjoy here.Katherine Langrishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12529700103932422873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4950999049789394042.post-85195646380934500642010-05-10T07:35:35.504-07:002010-05-10T07:35:35.504-07:00Sadness--my first comment didn't take! I'm going to put it in my e...Such a great post. I'm going to put it in my email folder so I can remember to get these books. First of all, I so enjoyed seeing the Hemmingford Grey house. That room where she did the broadcasts is wonderful. And Julian Fellowes! Isn't he the most amazing man. Reminds me of Alexander McCall Smith, and the late John Mortimer (and of course PG Wodehouse) in his talent, range, energy. It seems there is nothing that man can't do! Now, to the books. I'm hanging my head in embarrassment to say I haven't read the Green Knowe series either for myself or to my children. I think I'm just the least bit afraid of ghosts - and at my age! :<) But I'm going to begin. I'll read the first one and see. I love Tom's Midnight Garden. It is a perfect book to me. I read Beattie Bow when my daughter was young, and I remember liking it a lot. I read Westall's The Machine Gunners and thought it was great. I'm also going to read your books - I'm on a bit of an Iceland kick just now, having begun Arnaldur Indridason's Erlendur series. Thank you for an excellent post.Nanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15547916206007733970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4950999049789394042.post-4601795772227358952010-05-04T13:54:01.707-07:002010-05-04T13:54:01.707-07:00I love the Green Knowe books and Tom's Midnigh...I love the Green Knowe books and Tom's Midnight Garden.

I also like the four books that make up the Messnger series by Monica Dickens.

I think my favourite chidren's ghost story though is The Amazing Mr Blunden by Antonia Barber.Katehttps://twitter.com/Polipetlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4950999049789394042.post-89717535725473839842010-05-04T05:16:04.333-07:002010-05-04T05:16:04.333-07:00Goodness, I'm SO glad you included King Death&...Goodness, I'm SO glad you included King Death's Garden in this. It's not nearly well-enough known, and I think it's brilliant (but then I did edit it!). I love all Ann Halam's (aka Gwyneth Jones) books. I'd probably also add Diana Wynne Jones's The Time of the Ghost (I find that very scary as well as eerie), and a few Penelope Lively books--particularly The Ghost of Thomas Kempe might fit your criteria. Alison Uttley is wonderful--I must go back and read A Traveller in Time again. Thanks for taking me down memory lane, Kath.

Lucy at http://scribblecitycentral.blogspot.comLucy Coatshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16774389681477698245noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4950999049789394042.post-66508909403841652632010-05-03T16:22:39.140-07:002010-05-03T16:22:39.140-07:00Love the Green Knowe books.
