As you say, Moominmamma does all the work and is dragged away to the bleak island from her garden. I know how I would feel! In The Little Moomin and the Big Flood, Moominpappa has abandoned his responsibilities, leaving his wife and small son to fend for themselves. This isn’t to say I don’t absolutely adore the Moomins but I do see a very dark side to Moominpappa. My favourite character is Too-Ticky, btw. Although the one that always sticks in my mind and memory is Moominvalley in November, which is tinged with a kind of autumnal melancholy - a once read never forgotten story. I always remember the character of Toft, scared and reading his book about the creature that inhabit the depths of the sea. But I've never read this one as a grown-up, so maybe I should try it again!Charlottehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11835101886202235868noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4950999049789394042.post-28689997812514740552013-07-05T10:04:18.049-07:002013-07-05T10:04:18.049-07:00I totally agree, Cat! My own favourite is Moominpappa at Sea - in which Moominpappa has an existential crisis, and Moominmamma escapes into a garden she paints on the lighthouse wall... and Moomintroll grows up a little. But I love them all.
