They had a freedom to write a variety of genres we don't have any more, because in those days people would go out and buy the latest volume of verse and they'd love it or hate it, but they'd read and discuss it. These days few publishers will take a chance on poetry, so it mostly has to be self-published and people who do that tend to be terribly serious about it, too serious for my tastes. No wonder I gave up writing the stuff!Sue Bursztynskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09362273418897882971noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4950999049789394042.post-58093482534694152912012-06-29T13:43:28.101-07:002012-06-29T13:43:28.101-07:00Lovely post. I think Morris is rather like Browning as a poet - the sheer force of the stuff carries you away if you're not too worried about technical niceties. But some real food for thought and inspiration here as I am carrying out preliminary work on my own poetic drama inspired by Morris' Icelandic travels...!Aidan McGeehttp://worldlyscandifriend.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4950999049789394042.post-65880558284611985632012-06-29T03:52:34.628-07:002012-06-29T03:52:34.628-07:00Not the one at the head of the post, then, Adele? ...Not the one at the head of the post, then, Adele? You may be mixing it up with the one with a couple in bed and a seal peeping over the headboard.
