Is it going to be a trilogy? Lucy? One other magical Egypt story I know is Rosemary Harris's trilogy 'The Moon In the Cloud', 'The Shadow on the Sun' and 'The Bright and Morning Star', set in the time of Noah. It memorably and charmingly begins like this:

'At a time extremely long ago, the very time as it happened when the Lord God stirred and grumbled, 'They're all very bad down there except the Noahs, I'll have a flood,' the very humble ancestor of all circuses existed in the land now called Israel.'

The action soon moves to Egypt, however ... these are wonderful books.

Katherine Langrishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12529700103932422873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4950999049789394042.post-20400933373980372302016-05-05T00:53:08.532-07:002016-05-05T00:53:08.532-07:00Ooh, an Egypt with magic! Does the story veer from our history?

I once published a story by Christine Lucas, "What The Carp Saw..." in which the hero, a priest of Anubis, is trying to find the body of a murdered woman after her ring turns up in the fish he was going to have for dinner, so that she can have her afterlife. He and his cat enter the Otherworld to find the fish's soul and get the information. (This author loves cats) That was the only other piece of magical fiction I've read set in Egypt and the hero and his cat were such a delight! I simply had to buy it for that issue of the SF magazine I was helping to edit. Ancient Egypt would have been a pleasant, laid-back place to live in.
